Its about time we got all our Zipped CD-based games working in QuickPlay. PC's are fast these days, SATA drives are fast. If you've got an old computer you might want to close your ears at this point - eg: my eeepc still takes 5 minute to uncompress a PS ISO and launch it. But my desktop PC can uncompress a CD's worth of stuff including loads of .wav files and whatever else, in about 15 seconds, and my hard-drive ain't the fastest in the world - the days of this process taking too long to be worth it are seriously over!
KOSS showed us all how to launch .bin and .cue in QP using Daemon Tools, and I've taken his excellent work and run with it and, I hope, made it better and easier. All the Frontend's forums I've seen are full of external scripting to get stuff working - some of them pretty complicated.... We're going to need to launch external scripts from QP here, so of course I wanted to make things quick and easy
I work with Daemon Tools, because its an easy, available and free tool for mounting CD archives. So I've got scripts here for the free DTlite. And I work with 7zip files - QP was made for working with 7z - its well worth it as 7zip makes smaller and faster work of roms than anything else
But it does mean there are two sides to this story - although 7zip is great, it still has some frustrating practical difficulties with zipping and converting folders (actually any compression prog presents some difficulties). So I've tried to address that too
So I've just posted various scripts here that I've made to make working with archived compressed CD games quick and easy. I've done quite a lot of testing and reworking to make sure things will work well for others, so hope you find the new scripts download section useful for your present and future retro-gaming
